A new proposed multi sport centre located adjacent to the No 1 rugby turf. The project includes a 2 court multi purpose sports hall, kitchen and function rooms together with administration and change facilities.

Fundamental to the design is planning that facilitates optimum operational sustainability with particular focus on a low energy use high comfort internal environment with panoramic passive surveillance sightlines from the central administration and reception office to all key area of the building.

The project has been lodged for a Resource Consent which is expected to be granted in August. Pacific Environments have been engaged as part of a design and build contract with Stanley Construction. The 2600m2 centre consists of a double basketball court/multisport arena, along with a connected 150 seat conference centre, which has the added flexibility of adaptable function room sizes. Adjoining facilities include a reheat kitchen, office, and public washroom amenities. A 65 space carpark and landscaping will compliment the complex. The process adopted for this project has been one of collaboration with the client representative and architects on design aspects of the build. Through the course of the project planning stage, various design options were costed out, both to establish the most cost effective method, but more importantly, the best final result for the client and community. This means we are offering real live ‘up to date’ costing options - without the need for a lot of abortive design work and cost.

The building sits on a complex foundation system, designed specifically for this structure, to protect it in the event of severe earthquake. Through Stanley’s early involvement in the foundation design process, together with our hand-picked engineers, we were able to trim tens of thousands of dollars out of the final construction cost.

The specific approach for this project has been to target ease, flexibility and speed of construction. Running concurrently with the architectural and structural design, we have also teamed up with a number of very competent companies with a design build status, which enables us to deliver a turnkey solution to the electrical, hydraulic services, mechanical services, drainage and fire security.
