MITRE 10 TINY HOUSE 2
This Tiny House was the second in the series working alongside Mitre 10 to create alternative housing options for New Zealanders. In addition to this almost all of the materials and components are able to be sourced from Mitre 10 with some specialised components from caravan/ campervan suppliers.
Tiny house 2 is a smaller version of original Raglan tiny house and is built on an oversize trailer 7m long x 2.4m wide and is approx. 4.1m high, this allowed the tiny house to be generally transported on the roads meeting NZTA requirements. The front wall of the tiny house is angled to allow for a mezzanine sleeping area above the living/dining space and additional space within the main kitchen/storage area, tucked over the bathroom is an additional sleeping space and the living space can modified to have a fold down bed added for future sleeping needs.
As with the original the Tiny House the trailer version expanded on the idea of maximising the internal volume to create a comfortable environment (tardis like quality), where storage is created it is of a generous size and designing areas with several functions.
Being on a trailer the tiny house is not required to meet building codes but does need to meet NZTA requirements for being on the road and as per caravans requires an electrical WOF if being connected to the mains electrical supply. Water is supplied by an underfloor tank with pump, grey water from the kitchen sink and shower is directed to another separate underfloor tank and has a composting toilet.
The Tiny House was well received during several open homes held at Mitre 10 and can be viewed online at YouTube or Mitre 10 On Demand.
