Its not all about Architecture here in the PENZL office, we like to support each other in our hobbies outside of the workplace, and it seems that sailing is a very popular past time! Grant, Lyn and Anthony are all keen sailors, and Deb (our admin extraordinaire) is part of the sailing crew too, with her son Luke.
Just recently Luke represented NZ at the Laser Radical Youth Worlds in Germany! Not only did he represent NZ, he did so amazingly! It was his first Worlds and came in at 35th overall!!
There were 269 boats in the boys fleet, and for the first three days of the regatta (qualifying series) the boats were randomly allocated into fleets of 67 boats each. Each day there were two races lasting an hour each. Once qualifying was completed there were three days of final series and the boats allocated into Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald (the first 67 boats in Gold, the next in Silver and so on) with two races each day.
Luke did extremely well for his first world event, competing with some amazing sailors, and the whole PENZL team is very proud of him (also thankful because it meant a work shout)
Heres a little video where Luke and his friend Ryan were interviewed at Lake Pupuke where they train. Here is the Live, Sail, Die article who made the video.
