3 degrees of rotation

We get plenty of inquisitive comments about the large light fitting in the dining area of our office space...

Designed by John Kaminski, the large cardboard structure is perhaps more ingenious than meets the eye. The structure is formed by gluing multiple slices of shaped card together. Each piece is the exact same shape, but rotated by 3 degrees creating the spiraling organic form. An LED strip is then threaded through the interior space of the structure, It's a beautiful compliment to the office space.

For John this was his first commission piece after returning to NZ from a 6 month stint in China where he built prototypes of concept lighting and furniture pieces out of cardboard. The aim of this piece was to inspire New Zealanders, and showcase the versatility of cardboard, The design developed as one shape that could fit within itself to get maximum economy from the cardboard sheet.
