These projects resulted from winning a National Housing Competition for Manchester St, a Housing NZ site severely damaged in the 2011 devastating earthquake.

The brief called for mixed tenure Social Housing, both innovative and sustainable that would lead the market. All surrounding sites had been demolished in preparation for a new approach to developing post-earthquake Christchurch.

Our scheme was for high-density 3x level housing, (the new max height), fronting the street and creating an inner community feel to the courtyard.

Research highlighted options to plan and build with newly developed construction technologies and materials, prefabricated and transportable, where units were built off-site and after arriving on site, erected to a waterproof stage in a couple of days. This minimised on-site trades, now in short-supply and at a high-cost to create cost-effective solutions.

Our scheme was fully supported by a developer prepared to develop the project to completion.
