3 - Tapoo Fiji
This scheme covered an entire inner city block of Fiji’s second largest city, Lautoka.
The Brief called for a mixed commercial use development of ground floor retail, cafes, restaurants supporting Tappoo’s ‘flagship’ store. Tappoo is one of Fiji’s leading department and tourism stores. A drive-through McDonald’s and KFC also were required enhancing the opportunity of the ground floor and streetscape experience.
The upper floors were linked by central escalator experience to theatres, night-clubs, public services, offices and carparking.
The concept outcome is a vibrant street experience focussing on both day and night activities through light, colour and activity built into the Pacifica themed glazed facade and materials. It’s presence is that of a ‘spaceship meets Kava-bowl’ (Tanoa) expressed through it’s floating presence and gently curved underbelly, light-beams (escalators) and of Pacific overlays with an intensity to revitalise the social heart of Lautoka.
