2 - omaha beach house Omaha
BACKGROUND: Omaha Beach is one of Auckland’s favourite holiday beaches an hours drive North. It is increasingly becoming a satellite community and home to the actively retired. The site is one of few in the original northern end and owned for many years by our client who would holiday with their family in the one-roomed bach, tents and caravans in true kiwi fashion. It has now become their home and base for ‘adventures’.
BRIEF: To enhance the beach-holiday feel as a home to gradually retire to and base for ‘adventure’. Need to enjoy continued family times and grandchildren, friends to stay as an important part of the future.
OUTCOME: A relaxed comfortable ‘retreat’ utilising the indoor-outdoor connections and spaces, seamless flow and enhancing the site sloping topography. Northern terraces with views and living spaces flowing to a sheltered protected courtyard in adverse conditions. Spaces allow independent master-suite, and a separate independent family area focussed on the courtyard.
Vertical timber boarding, gradually weathering and softening to grey and forms ‘layered’ and angled –sandcastle-like.
